Achievements | Sustainable Beauty of Hualien and Taitung

Background

Typhoon Morakot hit Hualien and Taitung areas hard in 2009. Stanley Yen founded The Alliance Cultural Foundation with a group of friends to help rebuild Hualien and Taitung areas. The Foundation trained workers in the tourism industry, discovered potential attraction sites in the tribes, and helped the regions to find a way to flourish.

We believe that Hualien and Taitung areas represent the true life value in Taiwan. Its natural sceneries and aboriginal cultures are important assets in Taiwan. Since 2011, Wistron Foundation has supported the project of Sustainable Development in Hualien and Taitung organized by The Alliance Cultural Foundation. Through integrating resources, establishing a communication platform, and cooperation between public and private sectors, more people get to know the values of Hualien and Taitung. In recent years, more professional groups have been dedicated to this area, letting the eastern area shine.

Thanks to the efforts made by The Alliance Cultural Foundation, important projects such as Sustainable Development in Hualien and Taitung, Education Cultivation, and Art Promotion have been carried out. In the future, another two aspects will be emphasized, which are "promoting experimental education embedded with cultures of Hualien and Taitung", and "building an international art platform targeting Paul Chiang Art Center." The vision of creating globalized and sustainable life in Hualien and Taitung will continuously be advocated.

Education Cultivation: This project aims to conduct a revolution in education in remote regions with Junyi School of Innovation in Taitung as a base. The Alliance Cultural Foundation assists the relevant administration works and promotion, connecting corporate resources to encourage the humanity lifestyle in Taiwan. The mid and long-term goal is to turn the Paul Chiang Art Center into a global art benchmark. Like Setouchi Triennale in Japan, The Alliance Cultural Foundation builds an artist network. While bringing the art of Hualien and Taitung to the global stage, the Foundation further combines education, talent cultivation as well as private and public sectors to establish an in-depth, local art tourism style that welcomes international tourists, creating an ecosystem that attracts youths to stay at the hometown.

Sustainability in Hualien and Taitung: The Foundation aims to increase the quality of in-depth tourism and the culture of Hualien and Taitung, supporting the development of the eastern regions from the perspective of sustainable operation. Through industrial counseling and cultivating new social value, the eastern region has been shaped into a paradise of slow living. Meanwhile, the local artists have a chance to show their talents. The Foundation also creates a sharing platform that allows local aborigines to learn, exchange cultures with aborigines from other countries, building a sustainable future for our own lands.

Wistron Foundation has long been supporting The Alliance Cultural Foundation, especially on special education. The Alliance Cultural Foundation assisted Junyi School of Innovation in building experimental education courses by inviting local artists and experts in industries to the school for teaching and course development. By upholding the spirit of creating a happy learning environment, developing children's gifts, cultivating positive personality and bilingual ability, as well as becoming a person with positive values, the school encourages students to find their own unique traits, and trains them to become a citizen with cultural confidence and global view, being equipped with the ability to live a life well, behave well, and do things right.

The Alliance Cultural Foundation believes that education should start early. Since 2013, Junyi Elementary School has adopted Ci-Xin Waldorf experimental education which has long been advocated by the Wistron Foundation, focusing on happy learning and life/personality education. In 2015, Junyi High School was established, becoming the first bilingual school in Hualien and Taitung.
