“I only make videos about Taiwan because I am in love with this land.” - CHI PO-LIN.
The first episode of the new IC Broadcasting program,
Island Symbiosis - Listening to Taiwan, starts with
Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above by Director Chi Po-Lin.
Why choose Director Chi Po-Lin? Apart from setting new box office records for Taiwanese documentaries, the premiere of
Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above in 2013 further inspired environmental protection discussions among the government, public, and media in Taiwan. Through Chi Po-Lin’s eyes, we are able to look at the nature and culture of Taiwan from above and the environmental damage caused by humans.
Therefore, we used Director Chi Po-Lin, who was passionate about documenting Taiwan, as the topic for the first episode to not only expand the horizons of
Island Symbiosis - Listening to Taiwan, but also to construct the overall structure of the show. We hope to preserve the spirit of Director Chi Po-Lin to care for the people and species living on this island and show our deepest love for the environment and land of Taiwan.
In the episode, Director Chi Po-Lin's former boss, Chairman Ou Chin-Der of the Chi Po-Lin Foundation, talks about the opportunities that led Director Chi to aerial photography. Professor Hsiao Chong-Ray of the Department of History, NCKU, analyzes the artistic value of
Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above through the history of art in Taiwan. Has the environmental issues mentioned in the film been improved since the premiere of
Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above? We interviewed Lee Ken-Cheng, the CEO of Citizen of the Earth, Taiwan, to analyze this question.
