In 2013, we followed the lens of Director Chi Po-Lin and saw our homes and the beauty and sorrow of Taiwan from different altitudes and perspectives.
In 2017, we lost the beloved Taiwanese artist in an accident.
In 2018, the Chi Po-Lin Foundation was established, so that the spirit of Director Chi Po-Lin can transcend the limitations of time and be preserved for the distant future.
The episode takes the audience to the Chi Po-Lin Foundation in Tamsui. CEO Wan Guan-Li talks about how the foundation is creating a digital collection of Director Chi’s legacy. She explains that the collection is more than just digitizing. Many challenges and problems were encountered during the digitization of negatives and videos. She talks about how the foundation overcame these problems.
In order to continue using Director Chi’s aerial photography works for the promotion of environmental and educational ideals in Taiwan, the Chi Po-Lin Foundation officially established the Chi Po-Lin Museum in the rear building of Douglas Lapraik & Co. in Tamsui. The images captured by Director Chi are displayed for public viewing in the exhibitions. Furthermore, in the new school year of 2020, the foundation will also conduct environmental education courses in five elementary schools in Yunlin so that the children can learn about the stories that have taken place on this land and in their homes through the aerial photos.
We will also hear about how the foundation is looking for the next Chi Po-Lin to pass on Director Chi’s legacy and continue to faithfully document the story of Taiwan, promoting the beauty of Taiwan to the world.
In order to keep the length of the show to within 25 minutes, many great segments in the interview could not be included. The CEO specially thanked the people who had provided help along the way. In the beginning, the Chi Po-Lin Museum project only expected to have the support of 3,000 people, but in the end, 8,052 people showed their support and became the greatest backing for the foundation. In order to centrally display the names of the supporters, Bio-Architecture Formosana sponsored the design and construction of the “light mountain” wall. Furthermore, with the great support of Global Intelligence Network, the creation of the video collection database was completed successfully. CEO Wan Guan-Li expressed her deep gratitude for the people who showed their passionate support.
