The Grateful Little White Crane was awarded the Best Director and Best Film Editing awards at the 53rd Golden Bell Awards.
Background
In 2017, Spring Thunder Creative Consultants filmed the documentary The Grateful Little White Crane which followed the story of a Siberian white crane that appeared in Jinshan, Taiwan, and how the locals worked to create a more friendly habitat for this unique guest. The story was even published on the front page of Russia's Siberian Times with the headline, "Thank you, people of Taiwan," to thank the Taiwanese people for their warmth.
A Siberian white crane, one of fewer than 4,000 in the world and listed as a critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List, was separated from its flock during migration and came to Taiwan by accident, where it stayed for 521 days. The bird’s appearance attracted the attention of the international conservation community, and experts from China, the United States, England, Japan, Russia, and other countries came to Taiwan to witness its beauty, thus accidentally starting a gentle revolution of land use and environmental conservation.
Six thousand kilometers from home, how can the little white crane return home safely? How can we solve the conflict between local economic development and conservation? How can we convince the older generation of farmers to adopt friendly farming? And how can we make the young people who have left their hometowns willing to return home and devote themselves to the rebirth of their hometowns?
