Achievements | Let the wild birds fly back into the sky

Background

Wild birds and the human survival environment are quite overlapping. Urban development reduces the natural survival environment. Most of the artificial environment is not friendly to the survival of wild birds. The Wild Bird Society of Taipei supports the establishment of the Rinkuang Station Wild Bird Rescue Center to provide immediate rescue and care for wounded and sick chicks.

The Taipei Wild Bird Society Injury Relief Center was established in 1992. The purpose is "wild bird conservation and non-interference in nature" with emergency rescue and care of injured wild birds so that wild birds can return to nature after recovery. The center has become a wounded bird recovery customer of tens of thousands of injured birds.

The Wild Birds Rescue Center currently has professional staff and volunteers working together. In addition to daily caring for injured wild birds, during emergency periods the center also cooperates with the bird flu prevention action of the Animal Protection Office of Taipei City and conducts screening of unidentified injured and sick birds to help monitor an epidemic.

In addition, educational activities not only teach volunteers and the general public how to properly care for and provide help so wounded birds may return to the wilderness one day, they also remind everyone that environmental conservation needs ongoing activity.

Outcome

2016The original bird rescue areas were not enough so a rescue center was established next to the Taipei Metro Linguang Station. This year, a total of 3,700 wild wounded chicks/young birds were rescued, including more than 1,100 wild wounded birds. More than 140 needed to be accommodated for a long time. More than 1,800 attended general public rallies and 7 school campus rallies were held to promote bird conservation.

2015More than 3,000 wild wounded chicks/young birds were rescued, including more than 1,100 wild uninjured birds. More than 150 were housed for extended periods of time. More than 1,500 attended general public rallies and 14 school campus rallies were held to promote bird conservation. Trained 18 volunteers in wild bird rescue.
