Background

Have you ever protected something for 20 years?

Was it the friendship with your childhood sweetheart? An unforgettable love? Or the endless love given to your family?

Mr. Shen Zhen Zhong's answer is his love for the black kite, which he has loved for the past twenty years. From Keelung to Pingtung, Mr. Shen squatted in the mountains and forests where black kites might be found just to observe them in the sky, but he did not expect that this observation would last for 20 years, overcoming time and space. The film documents not only the black kite's habitat but also the hard work of the volunteers.

As we watched many black kits suffer from environmental damage, we cannot help but wonder if these ecological changes are also affecting humans as well.
We may not be able to see the effects of the destruction to our ecosystem yet, but recognizing and understanding why the black kites are disappearing makes us realize that both the black kites and humans, as well as all of our friends who share this land and sky with us, are exposed to a rapidly changing and hostile environment.

The Foundation sponsored the film Fly, Kite Fly, which premiered in 2015, hoping that more people who care about animals and the environment will have the opportunity to learn more about the raptor species, feel the interdependence between raptors and humans, and feel the close connection we share with the land and the sky through film.

The film received recognition from:
● The Environmental Conservation Award of the 12th Japan Wildlife Film Festival
● Two awards were received at the ART & TUR - International Tourism Film Festival in Portugal
● 2nd Prize of Nature & Wildlife for nature and wildlife documentaries
● Best Asian Film - Documentaries of Best Asian Film - TV/DOC Section
