Background

"Children know they have to go home from the first day they arrive" — Wu Wen-hui, former orphanage director.

For an orphanage in the small town of Xiluo, Yunlin the seemingly impossible task of cycling 1,200 kilometers around the island is a routine for them every summer. Xinyi Orphanage once even completed a 3,000-kilometer ride in China. With all their strength, they stepped forward step by step. They had no way back, but forward because the goal was not only to complete the trip around the island but also to make their way home.

The children in the orphanage come from many places, but they all have a home to which they cannot return. The journey around the island works like magic which quietly changes the participants. Apart from physical fatigue, the children pass through unknown trials of pain. Unable to change the past, they choose to shape their own futures.

This is not just a story about cycling around the island. The moment you reach the finish line, you may also find the strength to continue forward.

The Foundation supported this film, which was shown in theaters in 2016. The hope is that through the director's camera viewers will follow the teachers and children of the orphanage through a round-the-island experience during which the children gradually build self-confidence, open their hearts, and gain a life lesson of never giving up.

Wistron organized a special charity showing of Cycling Angels for students and teachers of Tainan Daguang Elementary School and Chenggong Junior High School in Tainan Daren Village Community Center. The director and the principal of the orphanage in the film were also invited to talk with the teachers and students. Wistron aimed to impart positive life lessons through the film.
