Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above, a stunning documentary made by filmmaker Po-lin Chi, debuted on November 1, 2013. This noticeable film captures the beauty of Taiwan from an aerial perspective. From mountains, ocean, lakes, rivers, forests, paddy fields, fish farms, and urban settings, the beauty is recorded as well as the environmental changes and damages made by civilization development.
Wistron Foundation was deeply moved by the seven minute trailer and supported the documentary with real actions. In 2017, Director Chi lost his life while shooting the sequel of his documentary. With deep sorrow in mind, we wish the impacts of Director Chi will last. Therefore in 2018, Wistron Foundation supported Chi Po-Lin Foundation to build a “Chi Po-Lin Space” in Tamshui to continue the mission that Director Chi did not have a chance to complete.
Chi Po-Lin Space exhibits footage related to Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above irregularly, distributing the humanity and environmental attention behind the camera. Environmental education has been carried out by combining relevant and teaching materials. In the meantime, the Digital Archive Project and Finding the Next Chi Po-Lin Project have been carried out.
The Digital Archive Project consolidates large amounts of drone-shot material from the past 25 years, including thousands of hours of video footage, roughly a hundred thousand negatives, and more than two hundred thousand digital images. These precious resources are kept safely using digital scanning equipment to preserve the landscape of Taiwan.
