The Wistron Foundation has sponsored a 3.36-hectare habitat in Guandu Nature Park, including the Moon Pond, to protect this wetland located just next to the capital city, Taipei. This year, the foundation expanded its conservation efforts by supporting the 2023 Guandu International Nature Art Festival, featuring works by five artists from Taiwan, Mongolia, India, and Japan.

The highlight of this year's event is “Blessings in Flight”, a woodcraft piece co-created by 40 members of Wistron coworkers. Aligned with the festival's theme, 'Nature as a Gift,' it serves as both their blessing and gift to nature, expressed through art.

This time, the Wistron Foundation collaborated with the Cultural Affairs Office to showcase staff-created artworks at Guandu Nature Park, presenting impressive woodcraft pieces for the Guandu International Nature Art Festival. These works highlight the team's creativity and reflect the Wistron Foundation's long-standing commitment to environmental awareness and ecological sustainability.

The artworks' theme draws inspiration from the natural postures of birds. Each participant contributed creative ideas, which were ultimately combined to form a vivid bird image on the outer wall of Birdwatching Hide No. 2 at Guandu Nature Park. This collaborative project is not only an achievement of collective effort but also reflects the Wistron staff's admiration for nature and Guandu Nature Park.

To gain a deeper understanding of birds' diverse characteristics, participating staff first visited Guandu Nature Park for birdwatching. Guided by a docent, they explored the area's bird diversity and seasonal migration patterns. This field study provided the creators with abundant inspiration for their artwork.

The initial concept aimed to identify suitable materials and inspire creativity within a limited timeframe. In collaboration with Tsai Chu-chia, Senior Technical Director of New Technology Strategy at the Wistron General Manager Office and Artistic Director of Woodcraft, along with Henry Wood Craft, driftwood was chosen as the primary material. The woodworking course was divided into two sessions, and within just six hours, participants selected appropriate driftwood to interpret various bird characteristics, expressing their images through unique textures and forms.

"Our creative process was an exploratory journey, transitioning from outdoor observation to indoor creation. We found that each piece of driftwood possesses unique qualities, which we transformed into beautiful works of art," said Tsai Chu-chia.

During this event, staff members explored this creative approach for the first time. While they may have experienced some uncertainty at the beginning, the guidance of the Henry Wood Craft instructors helped them unleash remarkable creative energy, resulting in a series of unique bird artworks."

"This event was not just about creation; it was an experience of balancing our minds, bodies, and spirits," one participant shared joyfully. "Coming from different departments at Wistron, we created pieces rich in creativity and imagination through this collaborative effort."

Tsai Chu-chia noted that this creative activity was not just about art; it also demonstrated the power of imagination and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, the creativity and artistic vision of the staff inspired him, resonating with Wistron's core spirit of 'innovation and sustainability.

As you pause at Birdwatching Hide No. 2, sunlight casts a warm glow on the driftwood art, inviting you to admire the diverse postures of waterfowl and raptors. It resembles a dialogue between birds and trees, reflecting the natural interaction of wings and wind. In early autumn, let us embrace the Guandu Nature Art Festival's theme, 'Blessings in Flight,' as we offer nature as a gift to the Guandu Wetlands and celebrate the beautiful harmony between Wistron and the natural world.
