In 2022, the National Geographic Taiwan Photo Contest, in collaboration with the Wistron Foundation, introduced the "Ecological Environment" category for the first time—and it proved incredibly fruitful. Over the past three years, the contest has continued to expand in both scope and depth, encouraging participants to submit a series of 5 to 10 photos that tell a complete ecological story. This initiative aims to raise public awareness and inspire individuals to turn their lenses toward the environment and its ecosystems. In 2024, the Wistron Foundation remains the exclusive sponsor of the entire competition. This year's contest featured six categories: People, Places, Nature, Night Sky, Ecological Environment, and Youth. A total of 10,205 high-quality entries were submitted by 3,566 professional photographers and enthusiasts. Notably, the newly introduced "Night Sky" category surpassed expectations in both quality and quantity, underscoring Taiwan’s impressive potential in the field of astrophotography.

The 2024 Taiwan Photo Contest Ecology and Environment Special Edition features award-winning works centered on the theme of ecological environments. Final selections for the first, second, and third prizes, along with three honorable mentions, were made by a distinguished panel of judges: renowned National Geographic wildlife photographer Tim Laman; environmental documentary director Chin-Yuan Ke; National Geographic contributing photographer Yuwen Chen; and Yungshih Lee, Editor-in-Chief of the Traditional Chinese edition of National Geographic magazine.

Anny Chou has received first place in this year’s Ecological Environment category. As part of her prize, she has taken part in a hands-on mentorship in ecological photography with renowned environmental documentary director Chin-Yuan Ke. The mentorship has taken place at the Longci Niupu Badlands in Tainan—an ecological habitat actively protected by the Wistron Foundation—where she has documented the area’s distinctive landscapes and unique ecological features.
