The Foundation and the Society of Wilderness have been sponsoring the Fuyang Eco Park and investing in habitat conservation and environmental education for more than ten years, with the aim of improving the habitat and increasing biodiversity. The Taipei City Government nominated Fuyang Eco Park for the Asia Pacific Landscaping Awards. The park won the “wildlife, biodiversity, and habitat enhancement or creation” honorary award, receiving recognition for its conservation efforts.
The main organizer of the Asia Pacific Landscaping Awards is the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). IFLA is the main authority in international landscaping and known as the Oscars of the landscaping industry. The federation is a professional partner organization certified by UNESCO and holds annual global meetings and regional meetings. In the Asia Pacific region, 14 members, including Japan, Korea, China, and Australia, participate in the events. Furthermore, in 2020, joint landscaping awards for the Asia Pacific, Africa, and Middle East regions were organized by IFLA AAPME (Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East), and 280 excellent works were submitted. The Fuyang Eco Park in Taiwan received the “wildlife, biodiversity, and habitat enhancement or creation” honorary award, which was a difficult award to win.
The Fuyang Eco Park, located near Lingguang MRT station in Taipei, is a rare example of an eco park situated within a city. During the Japanese occupation, the area was used as a military ammunition depot. Because of the long-term restrictions imposed on the area the low altitude forests and rivers were preserved creating a rare sight in the city. In 2003, the Society of Wilderness adopted the area and developed it into a natural eco park, in order to protect the rich and charming ecology. Wistron joined the Society of Wilderness in 2006 to sponsor the park. For information about the Foundation and Fuyang Eco Park, please watch Exploring the Shining Emerald of the City.
