“A tour for Wistron’s techies” – A visit to the Chi Po-Lin Museum in Tamsui

2022/05/20

520, who to say love to!

On Friday, May 20th, to avoid the crowded weekends, the Wistron Humanities Foundation brought its employees to the Chi Po-Lin Museum in Tamsui. There are more than 600,000 exquisite photography works by director Chi Po-Lin here, telling the story of Taiwan’s land through different themes of curated exhibitions. Currently, the museum is displaying a special exhibition entitled “Reflection of Rivers”. They also created the “Chi-Po Lin Collection, Preserving the Beauty of Taiwan” digital exhibition, which will provide a richer collection of photography works, a more convenient search system, and a more pleasing user experience to experience Taiwan from the sky.

In 2013, Chi amazed Taiwan with “Beyond Beauty - TAIWAN FROM ABOVE”. In 2017, while shooting footage for the sequel from a high altitude, he tragically fell and passed away. For 25 years, Chi devoted himself to aerial photography of Taiwan, flying for more than 2,500 hours and accumulating more than 600,000 films and digital photos, and capturing more than 1,000 hours of video. In order to continue Director Chi’s unfinished career, the Wistron Humanities Foundation continues to support the Chi Po-Lin Foundation after “Beyond Beauty - TAIWAN FROM ABOVE” to promote his recordings and share the beauty of Taiwan with the world. We invite you to experience “Reflection of Rivers” and “itaiwan8” with us.

The exclusive space creates an immersive experience. It was breathtaking to be in it and later realize that we are already a part of it.

The digital collection offered a very interesting interactive experience. Employees acted as detectives following clues in the photos to find the shooting locations and landscape keywords.

[Activity feedback] Impressive exhibition

  • The activity content provided us with very rich reflections and encouraged discussions.
  • Chi’s spirit will live on; it is our turn now to continue making Taiwan a better place.
  • The guided tour was in-depth, interactive, and energetic; the whole activity was great.
  • The tour guides at Chi Po-Lin Museum were great and provided us with some insight into Taiwan. Hopefully more people will come and experience it.
  • The “Reflection of Rivers” also reflects peoples’ hearts. The appearance of the rivers reflects how people treat nature. The Chi Po-Lin Museum fulfilled my dream of watching pollution-free rivers again and provided me with the opportunity to explore various aspects of Taiwan rivers.
  • Special thanks to the company’s Foundation for organizing this event and providing me with the opportunity to come and learn about the beauty of Taiwan.
  • Not only the exhibition hall, but also the logo’s design is very touching.
  • Chi fully devoted himself (to the point of giving up his life) to leave a complete record of Taiwan. Good and bad scenes made no difference to him when recording because he intended to portray the true image of Taiwan. The director’s love and goodwill towards everything behind the lens is what touches our hearts.

During the short 3-hour event, we saw Chi’s lifelong devotion to portray the reality of Taiwan touch the audience’s emotions. My admiration for Chi cannot be expressed using words. After watching the aerial photographs of the diverse rivers that nourish Taiwan, me must ask ourselves: What have we done for the rivers? Mirrors are widely used in the pavilion for us to see our reflections and remember that we should take it into our hearts to protect and love the environment. After May 20th, let us continue to fall in love with Taiwan through Director Chi’s lens.
